Description: ‘Granular Aggregate’ is the term used to describe naturally occurring deposits of sand and gravel formed during the last ice-age when glaciers were melting and receding. The New Brunswick Geological Survey maintains a granular aggregate inventory to facilitate effective management of these important resources, which are used for infrastructure construction and maintenance.Originally created in the 1980s. Deposit boundaries were originally defined by means of aerial photo interpretation and ground-truthing. Updates are infrequent and are not conducted according to a set schedule. Field mapping at the 1:50,000 scale was mainly conducted in the 1980s. Hand drafted maps were digitized in the early 2000s. Significant improvements to the original digitizing work were carried out in 2018. Future updates will incorporate LiDAR as a tool to further refine deposit limits.
