Description: This is the spatial distribution of provincial maple resource (red and sugar maple) with a focus on the tapping potential of these areas, which is defined as areas containing greater than 100 potential taps per hectare. Individual trees can receive up to 3 maple taps depending on diameter. The species and diameter of the maple trees were derived using LiDAR and plot matching, the outcome being potential taps per hectare. Stand shapes were derived using the provincial Landbase layer and edited to remove unacceptable areas such as PNAs and industrial freehold. Data was created using LiDAR plot matching for diameter and species information overlaid with Landbase layer to define stand boundaries.Initial LiDAR and plot matching information was developed in 2019, removals of stands <100 TPH and unavailable areas was finalized August 2021.
